Week 10: Twitter

Welcome to Week 10:
Twitter

I remember the first day I joined Twitter in 2008. It was at the NAACP National Convention in New York, New York. I hear they named that city twice because it was so good! :) From that point on, I was hooked! Twitter is great for staying current and up to date on trends. It was also great for connecting with people near and far. I learned the power of the hashtag here. Hope you enjoy Week 10 as much as I did!

REFLECTION QUESTION:

  1. Lurking is a term used for people who do not engage in conversation on Twitter, but just watch. How can lurking help you become a better listener via Twitter?
  2. A current trend on Twitter is the use of the thread. How can you use threads (How to) to bring you closer to getting noticed?
  3. Visit Jared Polin's Youtube Channel. What features in his video could help you get noticed? (Tweeting out video can help you get noticed too!)

Week 9: Snapchat

Welcome to Week 9:
Snapchat

I must admit. I fall into the category of underestimating Snapchat! In fact, before reading chapter 9, I deleted the app because I rarely use it even just to be social with friends. Yet, after reflection, I understood some key points on why I need to pay a little bit more attention to Snapchat! (Especially if your content is directed towards teens)

REFLECTION QUESTION:

  1. DJ Khalid was able to expand his personal brand using Snapchat? What made the culture of that app feasible for his growth? How can you leverage that same culture?
  2. What are the challenges of using SnapChat to market your brand?

Week 7: Getting Discovered

Welcome to Week 7:
The Discovery Process

Chapter 7 is literally 3 pages long and might honestly be my favorite chapter in this book because it focuses on the value of collaboration and how to leverage the authenticity of these connections.  This chapter also reminds me of the hard work that is needed to continue the journey of growth!

REFLECTION QUESTION:

  1. Research Hashtags that fit your brand. Make a list of hashtags that you will use strategically when engaging with others on Social Media!
  2. How can you partner with others to increase your exposure?

ACTION STEPS: As we reflect on the sacrifices of our Military in the U.S., we see the countless ultimate sacrifices that have been made, I encourage you to be grateful for all the opportunity we have on this Memorial Day. Please take a moment of silence with me in honoring their lives so we can live freely today.

Week 6: Social Media Tools: Facebook

Welcome to Week 6:
Social Media Tools: Facebook!

The second part of this book is all about “Creating Your Pillars”. These are the Tools that you can use to market your message. Chapter 6 focuses on the power of Facebook. As a user of Facebook who is just recently using their page features, I would describe myself as a novice as I get serious about using their Back Office marketing tools, but I am finding them useful.

REFLECTION QUESTION:

  1. Do you have a Facebook page? If not, why not?
  2. Identify features of Costa Kapthanais’ story that can be replicated to help build your personal brand. Name and explain one feature that would be useful to you.
    • a. NOTE: Your strategy might not always look the same as someone else’s and that is okay, but there surely are best practices that everyone can benefit from. In business, you can always learn from someone else because someone else is always doing it better! In the end, go with your gut with a combination of research!

Action Step: Make a Facebook Page and take some time to explore some features.

Admiration: Review Costa Kapothanasis’ IG page (COSTAKAPO) and identify positives of their branding and if they align to your strategy to be used for your brand growth.  Use the hashtag #BlueCheckBookClub @MissReed and @garyvee
